Colleen Brink Wildlife school at the Wildlife Camp in Zambia (2)

Dear Colleen and Patsy,

By now, it has been six weeks that our second parcel has been put to transport to Zambia. The third went two weeks later. According to our post office, it should have been arrived by now, at least the first one, but we know about the slowness of Zambian post!!!

Perhaps it is wise to check for the arrival of the parcels every now and then, and please let us know when you have received the two 20KKK (heavy) boxes.

And a tip to Herman; he'd better make a new warehouse for all the stuff I managed to send to you with help of all my friends and colleagues!!! Sorry for the missing cabinets, to store all materials...

For Patsy, we love your newsletters, so keep writing them!!! I'm sure a lot of people agree... Colleen talked about setting up a kind of newsletter regarding school, if she is still planning to do this, please put me on the list.

Lot's of greetings,

Karin, Aron, Marina, Margot, Bep, Marike, Marieke, Patricia, Ayse, Hasane, Jolanda, Joke, Henk, Wilma, Yvette and our special sponsors Paula from JMH, Rob and Ellie from Peugeot, Jaap Terlouw from Rolf school supplies and Chris Soetelief from Alberts school supplies.

Enjoy the new school year and let them play, Ineke and Frank

Dear Ineke and Frank,

The much anticipated boxes arrived!!! We picked them up late yesterday afternoon from the airport. Byron and Tara had gone up to the airport to collect them with Patsy. The poor kids were not allowed to peep until school today and so sat watching the boxes, dying to have a peek inside.

I think I was more excited than the children, it was like Birthday and Christmas all rolled into one. I think I was the biggest kid of them all!!

Once the kids arrived we all dived into the large boxes with lots of “ohhs” “ahhhs“, “wows” and “cool beans” coming from our little classroom. We had a lot of laughs and fun unpacking the boxes!! The children were over whelmed and so excited.

The noise we were making attracted quite an audience which included Penny the tree squirrel, Sam and Boo the dogs, several members of our staff and a couple of mischievous vervet monkeys! All trying to get a look into the boxes!

The smiles you have put on these children’s faces were priceless!! The parents of the children are all so grateful and touched by your kindness. I have enquires daily on people wanting to send their children to my little school. Unfortunately the room is not bigger enough to accommodate many more students. My heart breaks each time I have to say no.

I am currently putting a box of clothes, toys and school equipment together for the local orphanage too. I have added some of the amazing stuff you have sent me to share with these children who have so little. I know the children and staff at the orphanage are going to benefit from the toys and staitonary I have added from your amazing parcels.

The play dough, doctors kit, lego, puzzles and trucks were a huge success today. The girls have planned a tea party for tomorrow and have invited the boys. I will provide them with some tea and a few biscuits!!

The boys have been building a new road system in the sand with the toy trucks and have organized a sand castle building competition for Friday. We will all head down to the beach along the river and use the new tools to build tunnels and castles.

I can’t thank you enough for everything you have sent and done. We are all so grateful.

The children are currently making you cards and drawing pictures. I will post these once they are all completed. Please send me a postal address to which I can send these.

I have attached a few pictures of the kids, opening the boxes as well as our trip to Tribal textiles where we hand painted our own cushion covers.

Thanks once again.
Kind regards

Colleen, Byron, Henry, Chichi, Tara, Rabecca and Siyuha

Dear Colleen,

Sorry for the delay, we have just arrived from our trip in Uganda and Rwanda, so we where not able to respond...
Nice to read that you had your Birthday and Christmas on the same day, not much people can say that as well!!!

Good to hear the boxes have arrived in good condition...
Your story tells exactly what I had in mind, to encourage the children in there daily play and to learn from all the things they try. The tea party, building roads for the cars and the sand castle competition, really good that they (together with you of course) explore new worlds.

We would have loved to see the childrens faces, and hear those ”ohhs” and ”ahhs”, as well as the reactions of Penny the tree squirrel and the vervet monkeys!!
But the pictures showed the happiness of all the kids, and it affected us deeply!!!

It was also good to read of the enthusiasm of the parents, we find it very important that the children start to go to school at young age. I think you agree...
Perhaps a second class is on its way, I love to help you in Zambia as a teacher (haha).

Your idea to send some materials to the orphanage house is a good one. I'm just curious in the things they could use best...
We will update the sponsors with your letter and I will put the pictures on the bulletin board of our school (I'm sure it will affect them as well).

Regards and hope to stay in contact,

Ineke and Frank.
